Sir Alfred Hamilton Grant of Dalvey, 12th Bt. usually went by his middle name of Hamilton.1 He graduated from Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He was in the Indian Civil Service between 1895 and 1922.1 He was with the Kabul Mission between 1905 and 1915.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Indian Empire (C.I.E.) in 1908.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Star of India (C.S.I.) in 1915.1 He was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun of Japan 2nd Class.1
He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Indian Empire (K.C.I.E.) in 1918.1 In 1919 he negotiated the Peace Treaty with Afghanistan.1 He fought in the Waziristan Campaign between 1919 and 1920, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Star of India (K.C.S.I.) in 1922.1 He succeeded as the 12th Baronet Grant, of Dalvey [N.S., 1688] on 11 February 1936.1
