Richard Bermingham, 2nd Lord Athenry also went by the nick-name of Richard ‘of the Battles’.1 He was also known as Richard MacPhioris.1 He held the office of Sheriff of Connaught in 1299.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Lord Athenry [I., c. 1280] on 2 April 1307.1 He held the office of Sheriff of Connaught in 1310.1 He fought in the battles against Edward Bruce and the tribe of O’Connor in 1316.1 He held the office of Sheriff of Connaught in 1316.1 He held the office of a Lord of the Great Council [Ireland] in 1317.1

Thomas Bermingham, 3rd Lord Athenry1 
He was also known as Thomas MacPhioris.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Lord Athenry [I., c. 1280] before 1322.1 In 1334 he was a minor.1 He held the office of King’s Chief Sergeant of County Connaught on 30 January 1346.1 On 4 August 1356 he received a writ from the King restraining him from making war on the Clanricardes.1
