     John Furness was born on 12 September 1808 at Aine, Yorkshire, England.² He was the son of John Furness and Margaret Wearmouth.² He married Averill Eastor Wilson, daughter of John Wilson, on 5 February 1835.¹ He died on 23 December 1885 at age 77.¹
