Acording to ‘The visitation of Shropshire 1623’ This was the great schollar and traveller
Dissapeared in his travels in Italy and was never heard of again 10 Oct 1610
He was a perfect schollar by education, and a great traveller by his own affection: he began his first travails in April 1594, being 27 years of age and two months and for four years and upwards remained in France, Germany, Italy and Scilly and then returned home for a little while and took his journey again into Bohemia, Polomia, and Hungary, where for defence of the christian faith he put himself under the banner of Radulp the 2nd Emperor of the Romans (as a voluntary gentleman) at the Seige of Stregonium in Hungary against the Turk. afterwards to satisfy his desire which was to see the most eminent persons and places he went into Turkey, Natolia, to Troy in Asia by Sestos and Abydos through the Heles ?? & into the Isles of Lant, Chiss, Rhodes, Candys, Cyprus and divers other places in the Archipeligo.
He visited sundry ancient and famous places of Greece and Arcadia, Corinth, Thesalonica, Eshesus, and Athens went over the plain of Thermopolee by which Xerxes passed into Greece and so arrived at Constantinople in the reighn of Mahomed the third , Emporer of the Turks, who to do him the honour gave him a Turkish Gown of cloth of gold and his mother the Sultana Ebrita gave him another rich cloth of silver and 50 chequins in gold, After 13 months abode there he returned into England, to the joy of his friends where staying a while he went into spain and came back to safety. And again a fourth time he took his journey from London to Venice the tenth day of October 1610. From which day was never seen by any of his aquaintance on this side of the sea or beyond nor any certainty known of his death.
From his first journey to his fourth and last was 16 years and six months. He lived a batchellor leaving behind one sister named Catherine the wife of Edward Freeman.2 Reference: 65.2
