Henry Addington, 1st Viscount Sidmouth1
Henry Addington, 1st Viscount Sidmouth was born on 30 May 1757.1 He was the son of Anthony Addington and Mary Hiley.1,2 He married, firstly, Ursula Mary Hammond, daughter of Leonard Hammond, on 19 September 1781.1 He married, secondly, Hon. Marianne Scott, daughter of William Scott, 1st and last Baron Stowell of Stowell Park and Anna Maria Bagnall, on 29 July 1823.1 He died on 15 February 1844 at age 86.3
He was educated at Winchester College, Winchester, Hampshire, England.1 He was admitted to Lincoln’s Inn in 1784 entitled to practise as a barrister-at-law.1 He held the office of Recorder of Devizes in 1784.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Tory) for Devizes between 1784 and 1805.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1789.1 He held the office of Speaker, House of Commons between 1789 and 1801.1 He was appointed Fellow, Society of Antiquaries (F.S.A.) in 1791.1 He held the office of Deputy Ranger of Richmond Park.1 He held the office of Prime Minister between 1801 and 1804.1 He held the office of First Lord of the Treasury between 1801 and 1804.1 He held the office of Chancellor of the Exchequer between 1801 and 1804.1 He held the office of Governor of Charterhouse in 1802.1 He held the office of Lord President of the Council between January 1805 and July 1805.1 He was created 1st Viscount Sidmouth, of Sidmouth, co. Devon [U.K.] on 12 January 1805.2 He held the office of Lord Privy Seal between February 1806 and October 1806.1 He held the office of Home Secretary between 1812 and 1822.1 He held the office of Lord President of the Council between April 1812 and June 1812.1 He held the office of High Steward of Westminster between 1813 and 1842.1 He graduated from Brasenose College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1814 with a Doctor of Civil Law (D.C.L.)1 He held the office of Elder Brother of Trinity House between 1818 and 1844.1
