He fought in the Somaliland Campaign between 1908 and 1910.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches five times.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1916.1 He retired from the military, with the rank of Colonel, late of the 1st Battalion, King’s Shropshire Light Infantry.1 He was Commander of the 158th (Royal Welch) Infantry Brigade (Territorial Army) between 1930 and 1933.1 He was commander of the 38th Divisonal School between 1939 and 1940.1
