     He gained the rank of Commander in the Royal Navy.1

     Lt.-Cdr. Gerard Broadmead Roope, V.C. was born on 13 March 1905 at Hillbrook Trull, Somerset, EnglandG.2 He was the son of Gerard Roope and Florence Broadmead.3 He married Faith Dulcibella Clarke.3 He died on 8 April 1940 at age 35 at West Fjord, NorwayG, killed in action in command of H.M.S. Glowworm.2
     He fought in the Second World War.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Commander in the Royal Navy.2 He was awarded the Victoria Cross (V.C.) posthumously.2
