He was Assistant Commissioner of Uganda Boundary between 1910 and 1914.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the Rifle Brigade.1 He was awarded the Chevalier, Ordre national de la Légion d’honneur.1
