     Philip Hamilton Franks was born on 22 April 1890.¹ He was the son of Sir Kendal Matthew St. John Franks and Gertrude Jane Butt.² He married Olive Violet Justina Kent, daughter of Herbert Arthur Kent, on 12 December 1923.¹ He died on 15 May 1932 at age 42, without issue.¹
     He was educated at Eastman’s Royal Navy College, Winchester, Hampshire, England^G.¹ He graduated from Birmingham University, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England^G, with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.)¹ He fought in the First World War, where he was wounded.¹ He was a mining engineer at South Africa^G.¹ He retired from the military in 1927, with the rank of officer, late of the South Wales Borderers.¹

     Herbert Arthur Kent lived at Carlton House, Ringwood, Hampshire, England^G.¹

     Olive Violet Justina Kent was the daughter of Herbert Arthur Kent.² She married Philip Hamilton Franks, son of Sir Kendal Matthew St. John Franks and Gertrude Jane Butt, on 12 December 1923.¹ She died in 1972.¹
     From 12 December 1923, her married name became Franks.
