Colonel Francis Forde was the son of Matthew Forde and Anne Brownlow.2 He married Margaret Bowerbank, daughter of Thomas Bowerbank, circa 1748.1 He died on 27 December 1769, was lost at sea on the voyage out to India with the two other Supervisors in HM Frigate Aurora which vanished without trace after leaving the Cape of Good Hope.2
He gained the rank of Colonel in the Army.1 In 1754 he went to India with 39th (the 1st Regiment of King’s troops ever to go there and which thus bore the title Primus in Indis.)1 He fought in the Capture of Masulipatam.2 He defeated the French at Condore.1 Circa 1758 he defeated the Dutch in Bengal.1 He was commander of the Expedition to North Sarkars in 1758.1 He lived in 1759 at Johnstown, County Meath, IrelandG.1 He held the office of Supervisor of the Government of the East India Company in 1769, with overriding powers over Government of all EIC’s possessions, jointly with Henry Vansittart and Luke Scrafton.2
