He was educated at Haileybury College, Haileybury, Hertfordshire, England.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the Kings Royal Rifle Corps.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was wounded.1 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.1 He was appointed Member, Order of the British Empire (M.B.E.) in 1921.1 He succeeded as the 7th Baron Butler of Llanthony, co. Monmouth [U.K., 1821] on 17 April 1971.1 He succeeded as the 25th Earl of Ormonde [I., 1328] on 17 April 1971.1 He succeeded as the 7th Marquess of Ormonde [U.K., 1825] on 17 April 1971.1 He succeeded as the 19th Earl of Ossory [I., 1528] on 17 April 1971.1 He succeeded as the 17th Viscount Thurles [I., 1536] on 17 April 1971.1 On his death, the Marquessate and Barony of Ormonde became extinct, and the other titles became dormant.1
