     Lt.-Col. Michael Albert Astley Birtwistle was born on 4 April 1920 at Pleasington Lodge, Blackburn, Lancashire, England^G.¹ He was the son of James Astley Birtwistle and Mary Muriel Marwood.¹ He married Glen Craig, daughter of Alexander Henderson Craig and Elizabeth Beirne, on 23 September 1950.¹ He died on 10 May 2005 at age 85 at Lancashire, England^G.^1,2
     He was educated at Ampleforth College, Ampleforth, Yorkshire, England^G.³ He fought in the Second World War.³ He was managing director of Birtwistle and Fielding & Company Ltd.³ He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Duke of Lancashire’s Yeomanry.¹ He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Lancashire in 1976.² He held the office of High Sheriff of Lancashire in 1978.¹

     Glen Craig was born in 1923.² She is the daughter of Alexander Henderson Craig and Elizabeth Beirne.¹ She married Lt.-Col. Michael Albert Astley Birtwistle, son of James Astley Birtwistle and Mary Muriel Marwood, on 23 September 1950.¹
     From 23 September 1950, her married name became Birtwistle.¹

     Elizabeth Beirne married Alexander Henderson Craig.¹
     Her married name became Craig.¹

     Annette Mary Birtwistle was born on 31 July 1921 at Pleasington Lodge, Blackburn, Lancashire, England^G.¹ She was the daughter of James Astley Birtwistle and Mary Muriel Marwood.¹ She married Ian Garnet Maclaren, son of Dr. Norman Henry William Maclaren and Mary Margaret Garnet, on 31 July 1947 at Pleasington Priory, Blackburn, Lancashire, England^G.¹ She died on 6 March 2006 at age 84.¹
     From 31 July 1947, her married name became Maclaren.¹

     Ian Garnet Maclaren was born on 24 August 1915 at Troon, Ayrshire, Scotland^G.¹ He was the son of Dr. Norman Henry William Maclaren and Mary Margaret Garnet.¹ He married Annette Mary Birtwistle, daughter of James Astley Birtwistle and Mary Muriel Marwood, on 31 July 1947 at Pleasington Priory, Blackburn, Lancashire, England^G.¹ He died on 16 February 1997 at age 81 at Gatehouse of Fleet, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland^G.¹
