     Brigadier Alexander Purdon Campbell was born on 11 October 1909.¹ He was the son of Captain Alexander Campbell and Ellinore Mary Louise Purdon.² He married Baroness Alexandra Marie Ghislaine Fernande de Villefague de Vogelsank Brown, daughter of Major Thomas Brown, on 13 November 1939.¹ He died in March 1997 at age 87 at Brighton, Sussex, England.³
     He was educated at Tonbridge School, Tonbridge, Kent, England^G.¹ He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England^G.¹ He was commissioned in 1929, in the service of the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders.¹ He gained the rank of officer in 1935 in the Royal Army Service Corps.¹ He fought in the Second World War, where he was mentioned in despatches twice.¹ He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1945.¹ He fought in the Malayan Emergency between 1948 and 1951, where he was mentioned in despatches twice.¹ He retired from the military in 1961, with the rank of Brigadier.¹ He was Honorary Colonel of the Territorial Army between 1961 and 1965.¹ He lived in 1976 at Oak Cottage, Beyton, Suffolk, England^G.¹

     Major Thomas Brown was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.)¹ He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.)¹

     From 20 July 1968, her married name became Ward.
