Rt. Rev. Philip Nicholas Shuttleworth was born on 9 February 1782 at Kirkham, Lancashire, England.3 He was the son of Reverend Humphrey Shuttleworth and Anne Hoghton.3 He married Emma Martha Welch, daughter of George Welch, in 1823 at Hambleton, Buckinghamshire, England.3 He died on 7 January 1842 at age 59 at Chichester, Sussex, England.3
He graduated from New College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1822 with a Doctor of Divinity (D.D.)3 He held the office of Bishop of Chichester between 1840 and 1842.1
