Audacious between May 1913 and October 1914 which was lost to a German mine off Lough Swilly.2 He fought in the First World War.2 He gained the rank of Rear-Admiral in February 1915.2 He was Rear-Admiral of the Third Battle Squadron in March 1916.2 He was Admiral-Superintendent of the HM Dover Dockyard in 1917.2 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1919.1 He gained the rank of Vice-Admiral on 2 August 1919.2 He retired from the military in 1922, with the rank of Admiral.2 He lived at Highfield, Bishops Waltham, Hampshire, EnglandG.1
