He was commissioned in 1850, in the service of the 71st Highland Light Infantry.1 He fought in the Crimean War in 1854, (present at the siege of Sebastopol and on an expedition to Kertch and Yeinkali.)1 He was with the Central India Field Force in 1858.1 He fought in the North-West Frontier in 1863, in Umbeyla Pass with the Eusufyare Field Force.1 He retired from the military in 1868.1 He lived at Ballintaggart, Colbinstown, County Kildare, IrelandG.1
