     Wolfgang William Romer was born on 23 April 1640 at The Hague, The Netherlands^G.¹ He was the son of Mathias Romer and Anna Duppengiezeer.¹ He died on 15 March 1712/13 at age 72.¹ He was buried at Düsseldorf, Nordrhein-Westfahlen, Germany^G.¹
     He gained the rank of Colonel in 1688 in the army of William and Mary.¹ He was a military engineer in 1690 at Ireland^G.¹ In 1697 he accompanied the Governor of New York, Lord Bellamont, to take up his post, and constructed new fortifications there.¹ He constructed Fort Blockhouse at the entrance to Portsmouth Harbour.¹

     He held the office of Palatinate Ambassador to the Netherlands circa 1640.¹
