     Colonel Marcus Wylly de la Poer Beresford was born on 22 February 1825.2 He was the son of John Beresford and Harriet Eliza Wylly.3,1 He married Charlotte Blakeney, daughter of Captain Robert Blakeney and Contessa Julia Balbi, on 24 July 1852 at Corfu, GreeceG.1 He died on 12 February 1902 at age 76.1
     He gained the rank of Colonel in the 49th Regiment of Foot.1

     From 24 July 1852, her married name became Beresford.1

     He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the Madras Staff Corps.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the 3rd Royal Berkshire Regiment.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 1st Cadet Battalion, London Regiment.1

     He was awarded the Imperial Service Order (I.S.O.)1 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.)1 He was Secretary, North Nigeria Administration between 1903 and 1911.1
