     Hiram Ulysses Simpson Grant was born on 27 April 1822 at Point Pleasant, Clermont County, Ohio, U.S.A.^G.⁴ He was the son of Jesse Root Grant and Hannah Simpson.¹ He married Julia Boggs Dent, daughter of Colonel Frederick Dent and Ellen Bray Wrenshall, on 22 August 1848 at St. Louis, Missouri, U.S.A.^G.⁴ He died on 23 July 1885 at age 63 at Grant Cottage, Mount McGregor, Moreau, Saratoga County, New York, U.S.A.^G, from throat cancer.⁴ He was buried at Grant’s Tomb, Riverside Park, New York, U.S.A.^G.⁴
     Hiram Ulysses Simpson Grant usually went by his middle name of Ulysses S.      Julia Boggs Dent was born on 16 February 1826 at White Haven, St. Louis, Missouri, U.S.A.^G.¹ She was the daughter of Colonel Frederick Dent and Ellen Bray Wrenshall.¹ She married Hiram Ulysses Simpson Grant, son of Jesse Root Grant and Hannah Simpson, on 22 August 1848 at St. Louis, Missouri, U.S.A.^G.¹ She died on 14 December 1902 at age 76 at Washington, D.C., U.S.A.^G.¹ She was buried at Grant’s Tomb, Riverside Park, New York, U.S.A.^G.¹
     From 22 August 1848, her married name became Grant. She wrote the book The Personal Memoirs of Julia Dent Grant (Mrs. Ulysses S. Grant), published 1975.²

     Maj.-Gen. Frederick Dent Grant was born on 30 May 1850 at St. Louis, Missouri, U.S.A.^G.¹ He was the son of Hiram Ulysses Simpson Grant and Julia Boggs Dent.¹ He married Ida Marie Honoré, daughter of Henry Hamilton Honoré and Elizabeth Carr, on 20 October 1874 at Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A.^G.¹ He died on 11 April 1912 at age 61 at New York, U.S.A.^G.¹
     He was educated at U.S. Military Academy, West Point, New York, U.S.A.^G.¹ He was Aide-de-Camp to General Philip Sheridan between 1873 and 1881.¹ He retired from the military in 1881, with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel.¹ He was U.S. Minister to Austro-Hungary between 1889 and 1893.¹ He held the office of Police Commissioner of New York City between 1894 and 1898.¹ He gained the rank of Brigadier-General in 1898 in the Volunteers.¹ He fought in the Spanish-Amerian War in 1898.¹ He gained the rank of Brigadier-General in 1901 in the U.S. Army.¹ He gained the rank of Major-General in 1906.¹

     Ulysses Simpson Grant, Jr. was born on 22 July 1852 at Bethel, Claremont County, Ohio, U.S.A.^G.¹ He was the son of Hiram Ulysses Simpson Grant and Julia Boggs Dent.¹ He married, firstly, Fannie Josephine Chaffee, daughter of Jerome Bunty Chaffee and Miriam Barnard Comstock, on 1 November 1880 at New York, U.S.A.^G.¹ He married, secondly, America Workman in 1913.¹ He died on 26 September 1929 at age 77 at San Diego, California, U.S.A.^G.¹
     He graduated from Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts, U.S.A.^G, in 1874 with a Bachelor of Arts (A.B.)¹ He graduated from Columbia University, Manhattan, New York City, New York, U.S.A.^G, in 1876 with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.)¹ He was admitted to New York State bar in 1876.¹

     Ellen Wrenshall Grant was born on 4 July 1855 at Washington, D.C., U.S.A.^G.¹ She was the daughter of Hiram Ulysses Simpson Grant and Julia Boggs Dent.¹ She married, firstly, Algernon Charles Frederick Sartoris, son of Edward John Sartoris and Adelaide Kemble, on 21 May 1874 at White House, Washington, D.C., U.S.A.^G.¹ She married, secondly, Frank Hatch Jones on 4 July 1912.² She died on 30 August 1922 at age 67 at Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A.^G.²
     Ellen Wrenshall Grant also went by the nick-name of Nellie.¹ From 21 May 1874, her married name became Sartoris. From 4 July 1912, her married name became Jones.

     Jesse Root Grant was born on 6 February 1858 at Hardscrabble, Kirkwood, Missouri, U.S.A.^G.¹ He was the son of Hiram Ulysses Simpson Grant and Julia Boggs Dent.¹ He married, firstly, Elizabeth Chapman, daughter of William Smith Chapman and Sarah Armstrong, on 30 September 1880 at San Francisco, California, U.S.A.^G.¹ He and Elizabeth Chapman were divorced.¹ He married, secondly, Lillian Burns, daughter of Captain Owen Burns and Martha Ann Armstrong, on 26 August 1918.¹ He died on 8 June 1934 at age 76 at Los Altos, California, U.S.A.^G.¹
     He was educated at Cornell University, Ithaca, Tompkins County, New York, U.S.A.^G.¹ He was educated at Columbia University, Law School, Manhattan, New York City, New York, U.S.A.^G.¹ He wrote the book In the Days of My Father General Grant, published 1925.¹ He lived at Sausalito, California, U.S.A.^G.¹

     Ida Marie Honoré was born on 4 June 1854 at Louisville, Kentucky, U.S.A.^G.¹ She was the daughter of Henry Hamilton Honoré and Elizabeth Carr.¹ She married Maj.-Gen. Frederick Dent Grant, son of Hiram Ulysses Simpson Grant and Julia Boggs Dent, on 20 October 1874 at Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A.^G.¹ She died in 1930 at Washington, D.C., U.S.A.^G.¹
     From 20 October 1874, her married name became Grant.
