William Wilberforce1

William Wilberforce was born on 24 August 1759 at Kingston upon Hull, Yorkshire, England.1,3 He was the son of Robert Wilberforce and Elizabeth Bird.4,3 He married Barbara Spooner, daughter of Isaac Spooner and Barbara Gough, on 30 May 1797.1 He died on 29 July 1833 at age 73.1 He was buried at Westminster Abbey, Westminster, London, EnglandG.1
In 1789 he introduced a resolution into Parliament condemning the slave-trade.1 In 1791 he had a motion for the gradual abolition of slavery carried by the House of Commons.1
