John Maxwell Erskine, 1st Baron Erskine of Rerrick1 
John Maxwell Erskine, 1st Baron Erskine of Rerrick was born on 14 December 1893.1 He was the son of John McMichan Erskine and Mary Ann Maxwell.1 He married Henrietta Dunnett, daughter of William Dunnett, on 15 September 1922.1 He died in 1980.3
He was educated at Kirkcudbright Academy, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland.4 He was educated at Edinburgh University, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.4 He was a practising solicitor.4 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Kirkcudbrightshire in 1932.4 He was general manager, The Commercial Bank of Scotland Ltd between 1932 and 1953.4 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Society, Edinburgh (F.R.S.E.) in 1933.4 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Kirkcudbrightshire in 1940.4 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1946.1 He was appointed Knight Bachelor in 1949.1 He was director, The Commercial Bank of Scotland Ltd between 1951 and 1969.4 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of the British Empire (G.B.E.) in 1956.1 He was created 1st Baronet Erskine [U.K.] on 5 July 1961.1 He was created 1st Baron Erskine of Rerrick, of Rerrick, Stewartry of Kirkcudbright [U.K.] on 4 September 1964.1 He was appointed KStJ in 1965.4
