Sir John Austin Hungerford Leigh Hoskyns was born on 23 August 1927 at Farnborough, Hampshire, England.2 He was the son of Lt.-Col. Chandos Benedict Arden Hoskyns and Joyce Austin Taylor.3 He married Miranda Mott in 1956.2 He died on 20 October 2014 at age 87.2
He was educated at Winchester College, Winchester, Hampshire, England.2 He gained the rank of Captain in the Rifle Brigade.2 He was chairman and managing director of Hoskyns Group.2 He was head of the Prime Minister’s Policy Unit between 1979 and 1982.2 He was appointed Knight in 1982.2 He was director general of the Institute of Directors between 1984 and 1989.2 He was chairman of Burton Group between 1990 and 1998.2
