     William Charles Henry Alston Smith-Ryland was born circa 1859.² He was the son of Henry Smith and Maria Louisa Phipson.² He married Edith Richards, daughter of William Francis Richards, on 13 October 1887 at Solihull, Warwickshire, England.² He died on 1 June 1914 at 36 Wilton Place, London, England.² His will was proven (by probate) on 8 August 1914 at Warwickshire, England.²
     He lived at Barford Hill, Warwick, Warwickshire, England^G.³ He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.)¹ William Charles Henry Alston Smith-Ryland usually went by his middle name of Charles.³

     Katherine Doris Smith-Ryland is the daughter of William Charles Henry Alston Smith-Ryland.² She married Major Owen Charles Guinness, son of Colonel Charles Davis Guinness and Hon. Lucy Matilda Anne Massy, on 23 June 1927.¹
     From 23 June 1927, her married name became Guinness.

     Charles Spencer Guinness was born on 1 June 1932.² He was the son of Major Owen Charles Guinness and Katherine Doris Smith-Ryland.³ He died on 24 April 2004 at age 71.⁴

     Paul Dennis Guinness was born on 4 February 1941.¹ He is the son of Major Owen Charles Guinness and Katherine Doris Smith-Ryland.² He married Susan Elizabeth Jennifer Gill, daughter of Garrett Gill, on 31 May 1968.³
