Lt.-Col. Francis North, 4th Earl of Guilford was born on 25 December 1761.1 He was the son of Frederick North, 2nd Earl of Guilford and Anne Speke.3 He married Maria Boycott, daughter of Thomas Boycott, on 19 July 1810.1 He died on 11 January 1817 at age 55, without issue.1
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He gained the rank of Cornet in 1777 in the 2nd Dragoons.1 He gained the rank of Major in 1783 in the 83rd Foot.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1794.1 He succeeded as the 6th Baron Guilford, co. Surrey [E., 1683] on 20 April 1802.1 He succeeded as the 4th Earl of Guilford [G.B., 1752] on 20 April 1802.1 He wrote the book The Kentish Barons, published 1817, a play.1
