Sir William Oliphant Hutchison was born on 2 July 1889 at Dysart, Fife, Scotalnd.3 He was the son of Henry Hutchison and Hannah Key.3 He married Margery Walton, daughter of Edward Arthur Walton and Helen Henderson, in 1918.2 He died on 5 February 1970 at age 80 at 30 Oakwood Court, Kensington, London, England.2
He was educated at Rugby School, Rugby, Warwickshire, England.2 He was educated between 1909 and 1912 at Edinburgh College of Art, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.2 He fought in the First World War.2 He was head of the National Portrait Gallery of Scotland.3 He was director of the Glasgow School of Art between 1933 and 1943.3 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Law (LL.D.)1 He lived at Cholmondeley Lodge, Richmond, Surrey, EnglandG.1
