     Mary Evelyn Hampton also went by the nick-name of Eva Hampton.1 She was a nurse in 1917 at Hanmer Springs, Canterbury, New ZealandG.5 From July 1917, her married name became Turnbull.1 In 1933 Eva discovered moa bones in a limestone cave near the farm at Kiawaka.5

Joseph Palmer Turnbull1,2

     Joseph Palmer Turnbull married Mary Evelyn Hampton, daughter of David Hampton and Mary Wilson Thompson, in July 1917.3 He died on 26 September 1945.4
     Joseph served in the Canterbury Mounted Rifles, 1st NZEF in 1914. He took part in the Gallipoli landings, and was wounded that day. He was evacuated to Lemmas Island where he recovered and returned to Gallipoli, being wounded a second time..3 He was a farmer after 1917 at Kiawaka, Hawkes Bay, New ZealandG, His farm was drawn in a ballot for war veterans..4
