     He was a student at Timaru Boys High School, Timaru, New ZealandG.2 He graduated from University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New ZealandG, in 1949 with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.)2 He graduated from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan, U.S.A.G, in 1954 with a Master of Law (S.J.D.)2 He was a lawyer in 1957 at Invercargill, New ZealandG.2 He was a lawyer with the Crown Law Office between 1963 and 1966 at Wellington, New ZealandG.2 He was Dean of Law between 1968 and 1971 at Victoria University, Wellington, New ZealandG.2 He was a lawyer with Watts & Patterson in 1973 at Wellington, New ZealandG.2 He was chairman of the Commission of Inquiry into Inflation Accounting between 1975 and 1976.3 He held the office of Judge of the Court of Appeal [New Zealand] in 1977.2 He was appointed Privy Councillor (P.C.) in 1978.
