     He was Chief of Police at Grenada^G.¹ He fought in the Boer War between 1899 and 1901, where he was mentioned in despatches.¹ He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1900.¹ He was Inspector of the South African Constabulary.¹ He fought in the First World War, in British East Africa.¹ He gained the rank of Colonel in the 2nd Rhodesia Regiment.¹ He was awarded the Croix de Guerre.¹ He was Commissioner of Police and Commandant-General of South Rhodesia.¹ He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1924.¹
