     He graduated from Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario, CanadaG, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He fought in the Second World War.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Commande in the Royal Navy Reserve.1 He gained the rank of Commander in the Royal Canadian Navy.1 He was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration (C.D.)1 He was the head of modern languages at Royal Masonic School, Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire, EnglandG.1 He was awarded the Reserve Decoration (R.D.) in 1969.1 In 1973 he was granted the rank of a marquess’s younger son.1
