Lieutenant Horace Robert Martineau, V.C. was born on 24 October 1874 at 39 Princes’ Square, Bayswater, London, EnglandG.2 He was the son of William Martineau and Margaretta Sarah Mason.2 He married Amy Werdmuller, daughter of Charles Werdmuller, on 31 July 1909 at East London, Natal, South AfricaG.2 He died on 7 April 1916 at age 41 at Dunedin Hospital, Dunedin, New ZealandG, from acute gastritis.2 He was buried at Andersons Bay Soldier’s Cemetery, Dunedin, New ZealandG.2
