     Nicholas Balfe was the son of Michael Balfe and Alicia Smith.¹ He married Jane Ennis, daughter of Andrew Ennis, in a childless marriage.¹ He died in 1856.¹

     Arabella Hawkes was the daughter of Charles Hawkes.¹ She married James Joseph Balfe, son of Michael Balfe and Alicia Smith.¹ She died on 3 November 1897 at Petersham, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia^G.³
     Her married name became Balfe.¹ She emigrated along with their children to Glebe, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia^G, arriving on October 1885 on board SS Aberdeen.²

     Charles Hawkes lived at Brierfield, County Roscommon, Ireland^G.¹
