     He was educated at Bedford, Bedfordshire, England^G.¹ He was formerly in the service of the Leicester Regiment.¹ He fought in the First World War.¹ He gained the rank of Major in the 2/5th Maharatta Light Infantry, Indian Army.¹

     Shelia Lyle Simpson is the daughter of Lt.-Col. David Simpson.¹ She married Major Noel Maurice Anderson, son of Lt.-Gen. Sir Charles Alexander Anderson and Ellen Katherine Russell, on 22 August 1922.¹
