     Gerhard III Graf von Holstein was born circa 1293. He was the son of Heinrich I Graf von Holstein-Rendsburg and Heilwig von Bronckhorst. He married Sophie Herzogin von Schleswig, daughter of Nicholas II Prinz von Werle and Richeza Eriksdottir, circa 1315. He died in 1340.
     He was also known as Gerhard ‘the Great’ von. He gained the title of Graf von Holstein. He gained the title of Herzog von Schleswig.
