     He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow, London, England^G.¹ He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England^G.¹ He was commissioned in 1933, in the service of the Hodson’s Horse Indian Army.¹ He fought in the Second World War, in India, Iraq, Iran and Burma, and was mentioned in despatches.¹ He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 5th/10th Baluch Regiment.¹ He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.) in 1945.¹ He was Commandant of the Governor-General’s Body Guard in 1946.¹ He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Royal Dragoons.¹

     Bessie Lee Byrne was the daughter of W. J. Byrne.² She married Lt.-Col. Patrick Godfrey Goolden Massey, son of George William Hughes Massey and Marion Clarke, on 4 March 1941.¹ She died in 1978.¹
     From 4 March 1941, her married name became Massey.

     Colonel Hamon Patrick Dunham Massey was born on 18 August 1950.¹ He is the son of Lt.-Col. Patrick Godfrey Goolden Massey and Bessie Lee Byrne.² He married, firstly, Caroline Baker, daughter of Lt.-Col.
