     Archibald Douglas, Earl of Moray was born after 1426. He was the son of James Douglas, 7th Earl of Douglas and Beatrice Sinclair.² He married Lady Elizabeth Dunbar, daughter of James Dunbar, 4th Earl of Moray and Janet Seton, from August 1434 to 26 April 1442.² He died on 1 May 1455 at Arkinholm, killed in action.¹
     After his marriage, Archibald Douglas, Earl of Moray was styled as Earl of Moray on 3 July 1445.² On 3 July 1445 he took his seat in Parliament as Earl of Moray in supposed right of his wife but in reality by virtue of the overpowering ascendancy just then of the Douglases.² In 1452 he attempted to avenge his brother’s murder by the King, following which King James II of Scotland took the Earldom of Moray into the possession of the Crown.² In 1455 he rose up in rebellion a second time and was defeated at Arkinholm.² He fought in the Battle of Arkinholm on 1 May 1455.² He was nominated to be a he was posthumously and formally stripped of his title on 12 June 1455.²
