Richard Kidston Law, 1st Baron Coleraine was born on 27 February 1901.1 He was the son of Rt. Hon. Andrew Bonar Law and Annie Pitcairn Robley.3 He married Mary Virginia Nellis, daughter of Abram Fox Nellis, on 26 January 1929.1 He died in 1980.1
He was educated at Shrewsbury School, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, EnglandG.1 He graduated from St. John’s College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, in 1923 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for Hull South-West between October 1931 and June 1945.1 He held the office of Finance Secretary for the War Office between 1940 and 1941.1 He held the office of Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Foreign Office between 1941 and 1943.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1943.1 He held the office of Minister of State, Foreign Office between 1943 and 1945.1 He graduated from St. John’s College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, in 1945 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He held the office of Minister of Education in 1945.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for South Kensington between November 1945 and February 1950.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for Hull Haltemprice between February 1950 and January 1954.1 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Law (LL.D.) by New Brunswick University, New Brunswick, CanadaG, in 1951.1 He was created 1st Baron Coleraine, of Haltemprice, East Riding, co. Yorks [U.K.] on 16 February 1954.1
