Leifchild Stratten Leif-Jones, 1st and last Baron Rhayader was born on 16 January 1862.1 He was the son of Reverend Thomas Jones and Jane Jones.1 He died on 26 September 1939 at age 77.1
He was given the name of Leifchild Stratten Jones at birth.1 He was educated at Scotch School, Melbourne, Victoria, AustraliaG.1 He graduated from Trinity College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, in 1885 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He graduated from Trinity College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, in 1889 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Liberal) for North Westmorland between 1905 and 1910.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Liberal) for Nottinghamshire, Rushcliffe Division between 1910 and 1918.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1917.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Liberal) for Cornwall, Camborne Division between 1923 and 1924.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Liberal) for Cornwall, Camborne Division between 1929 and 1931.1 On 11 January 1932 his name was legally changed to Leifchild Stratten Leif-Jones by Deed Poll.1 He was created 1st Baron Rhayader, of Rhayader, co. Radnor [U.K.] on 25 January 1932.1 On his death, his title became extinct.1

David Alfred Thomas, 1st Viscount Rhondda was born on 26 March 1856.1 He was the son of Samuel Thomas and Rachel Joseph.1 He married Sybil Margaret Haig, daughter of George Augustus Haig, on 27 June 1882 at Knighton, Radnorshire, WalesG.1,2 He died on 3 July 1918 at age 62, without male issue.1
He graduated from Caius College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Merthyr Burghs between 1888 and 1910.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Glamorgan.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Glamorgan.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Cardiff in 1910.1 He held the office of President of the Local Government Board between 1916 and 1917.1 He was created 1st Baron Rhondda, of Llanwern, co. Monmouth [U.K.] on 28 January 1916.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) on 13 December 1916.1 He held the office of Food Controller between 1917 and 1918.1 He was created 1st Viscount Rhondda, of Llanwern, co. Monmouth [U.K.] on 19 June 1918, with a special remainder to his daughter.1 On his death, his barony became extinct.1
