Norman Craven Brook, 1st and last Baron Normanbrook was born on 29 April 1902.1 He was the son of Frederick Charles Brook and Annie Smith.1 He married Ida Mary Goshawk, daughter of E. A. Goshawk, on 30 November 1929.1 He died on 15 June 1967 at age 65.1
He was educated at Wolverhampton Grammar School, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, EnglandG.1 He graduated from Wadham College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, in 1925 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He was with the Home Civil Service in 1935.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1942.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) in 1946.1 He was Secretary to Cabinet between 1947 and 1962.1 He graduated from Wadham College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, in 1949 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.) in 1951.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1953.1 He held the office of Joint Permanent Secretary to Treasury between 1956 and 1962.1 He was Head of the Civil Service between 1956 and 1962.1 He was chairman of the BBC in 1964.1 He was created 1st Baron Normanbrook, of Chelsea, co. London [U.K.] on 24 January 1964.1
