Hon. Alan Joseph Pennington was born on 5 April 1837.1 He was the son of Lowther Augustus John Pennington, 3rd Baron Muncaster and Frances Catherine Ramsden.1 He married Anna Eleanora Hartopp, daughter of Edward Bourchier Hartopp and Honoria Gent, on 9 December 1880.1 He died on 14 June 1913 at age 76, without issue.1
He fought in the Siege of Sebastopol, in the Royal Navy.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the Rifle Brigade.1
