He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He graduated in 1885 with a Eton and Trin College Cambridge Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)3 ) He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, in 1885 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Devon, Totnes Division between 1885 and November 1918.1 He fought in the Boer War in 1900.1 He gained the rank of Major in the West Kent Yeomanry.4 He fought in the First World War between 1914 and 1918, where he was mentioned in despatches four times.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1916.4 He was awarded the Territorial Decoration (T.D.)4 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Totnes between December 1918 and 1922.1 He gained the rank of Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel in the West Kent Yeomanry.4 He was a director of Great Western Railway.1 He was created 1st Baron Mildmay of Flete, of Totnes, co. Devon [U.K.] on 20 November 1922.1 He was a member of the Committee for Review of Political Honours Commission between 1923 and 1924.1 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Devon in 1928.1
