Major Edward James Lugard1 
He fought in the Burma War between 1888 and 1889.2 He fought in the Chin-Lushai Expedition between 1889 and 1890, and he was mentioned in despatches.2 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1890.1 He fought in the Manipur Expedition in 1891, where he was slightly wounded.2 He fought in the Expedition to Nganuland between 1896 and 1899.2 He fought in the Boer War between 1899 and 1900.2 He gained the rank of Major in the Indian Army.1 He was Political Assistant to the High Comissioner of Northern Nigeria between 1903 and 1906.2 He was Secretary of the Imperial Institute between 1908 and 1912.2 He fought in the First World War between 1915 and 1919.2 He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1918.1

Rt. Hon. General Sir Edward Lugard1 
Rt. Hon. General Sir Edward Lugard was born on 8 May 1810 at London, England.1,2 He was the son of Captain John Lugard and Jane Llewellyn Trewman.1 He married, secondly, Martha Fulbrook, daughter of Joseph Fulbrook and Mary Anne Townson.1 He married, firstly, Isabella Mowbray Hart, daughter of Henry Hart and Deborah Spence, in 1837.1 He died on 31 October 1898 at age 88.1
He gained the rank of officer in the 31st Foot.1 He fought in the Afghan War in 1842.1 He fought in the Sikh Wars between 1845 and 1846.1 He fought in the Sikh Wars between 1848 and 1849.1 He fought in the Indian Mutiny, in command a division at the capture of Lucknow.1 He fought in the Persian Campaign in 1857.1 He held the office of Under-Secretary of State for War between 1861 and 1871.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.)1 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.)1
