James Foulis, Lord Colinton1
He was engaged in Scottish wars following the death of Charles I.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Edinburgh [Scotland] between 1645 and 1684.2 He held the office of a Lord of Session in 1661.2 He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Foulis, of Colinton [N.S., 1634] circa 1672.2 He held the office of Lord Justice Clerk in 1684.2 He gained the title of Lord Colinton [Scottish Law Lord] in 1684.2

He was also known as Thomas Fraser of Beaufort.2 He succeeded as the 10th Lord Lovat [S., c. 1464] on 14 September 1696, de jure.1 In 1698 his son Simon abducted Amelia’s mother and forced her to go through a form of marriage with him, for which his son was tried in absentia for high treason, outlawed and sentenced to death. He was found to be an accessory, and so was also found guilty of high treason.1 He lived at Beaufort, Inverness-shire, Scotland.1
