     He was educated at Winchester College, Winchester, Hampshire, England^G.¹ He graduated from New College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England^G, in 1933 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)¹ He held the office of Under-Secretary of the War Office between 1954 and 1964.¹ He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1955.¹ He held the office of Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Defence between 1964 and 1971.¹

     Patricia Iona Mary Carrick was the daughter of W. Howard Carrick.¹ She married, firstly, Duncan George Stewart before 1952.¹ She married, secondly, Edward Kennedy Stopford, son of Major Heneage Frank Stopford and Margaret Amelia Kennedy, on 6 September 1952.¹ She died in 1989.¹
     From before 1952, her married name became Stewart.¹ From 6 September 1952, her married name became Stopford.¹

     Duncan George Stewart married Patricia Iona Mary Carrick, daughter of W. Howard Carrick, before 1952.¹ He died before 1952.¹
     He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.)¹

     Michael John Stopford was born on 22 June 1953.¹ He is the son of Edward Kennedy Stopford and Patricia Iona Mary Carrick.¹
     He was educated at Radley College, Abingdon, Oxfordshire, England^G.¹

     Charlotte Clark is the daughter of Reverend James Graham Clark.¹ She married Wyndham Horace Stopford, son of Captain Wyndham Horace Stopford and Dorothy Eleanor Leeson, on 22 February 1968.¹
