He was educated at Malvern College, Malvern, Worcestershire, EnglandG.1 He graduated from Brasenose College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, in 1907 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He was with the Malayan Civil Service between 1908 and 1940.1 He graduated from Brasenose College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, in 1910 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1938.1 He was Liaison Officer to Sarawak and North Borneo between 1940 and 1942.1 In 1942 he became a POW at the surrender of Singapore.1
