He was admitted to Lincoln’s Inn on 19 October 1719.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Baronet Child, of the City of London [E., 1685] on 7 March 1724/25.1
On his death, his baronetcy became extinct.1

He was a practising Barrister in 1753.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Castlemartyr [Ireland] between 1783 and 1790.1 He held the office of Sheriff of County Cork in 1786.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Bandonbridge [Ireland] between 1790 and 1800.1 He was created 1st Baronet Chinnery, of Flintfield, co. Cork [Ireland] on 29 August 1799.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Bandonbridge between 1801 and 1806.1
