Frederick Alexander Lindemann, 1st and last Viscount Cherwell was born on 5 April 1886.1 He was the son of Adolphus Frederick Lindemann.1 He died on 3 July 1957 at age 71, unmarried.1
He fought in the First World War, as an experimental pilot.3 He was a physical scientist.3 He was Personal Assistant to the Prime Minister in 1940.3 He was created 1st Baron Cherwell, of Oxford, co. Oxford [U.K.] on 4 July 1941.1 He held the office of Paymaster-General between 1942 and 1945.3 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1943.3 He was Professor of Experimental Philosophy at Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG.3 He held the office of Paymaster-General between 1951 and 1953.3 He was created 1st Viscount Cherwell, of Oxford, co. Oxford [U.K.] on 25 June 1956.1
On his death, his titles became extinct.1
