He was educated at Exeter College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG.1 He was a lecturer and tutor in philosophy at University College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG.1 He was admitted to Lincoln’s Inn entitled to practise as a barrister.1 He was naturalized as a British citizen on 21 July 1883.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Liberal) for East Northampton between 1885 and 1910.1 He was Member of the Royal Commission on Agricultural Depression between 1893 and 1896.1 He was created 1st Baronet Channing [U.K.] on 3 December 1906.1 He was created 1st Baron Channing of Wellingborough, of Wellingborough, co. Northampton [U.K.] on 9 July 1912.1 He wrote the book Memories of Midland Politics, 1885-1910, published 1918.1 In 1926 see edn.2 He had one other daughter, who died young.3
On his death, his titles became extinct.1
