     Ernle David Lewis Chatfield, 2nd Baron Chatfield was born on 2 January 1917 at Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland^G.² He was the son of Admiral Alfred Ernle Montacute Chatfield, 1st Baron Chatfield and Lillian Emma Matthews.³ He married Felicia Mary Elizabeth Bulman, daughter of Dr. John Roderick Bulman, on 16 May 1969.¹ He died on 30 September 2007 at age 90 at Victoria, British Columbia, Canada^G.⁴
     He was educated between 1926 and 1930 at King’s Mead, Seaford, Sussex, England^G.² He was educated between 1930 and 1934 at Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, Devon, England^G.² He was educated between 1934 and 1936 at Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England^G.² He was Aide-de-Camp to the Governor General of Canada between 1940 and 1945.¹ He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Chatfield, of Ditchling, co. Sussex [U.K., 1937] on 15 November 1967.¹ He gained the rank of Honorary Lieutenant in the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve.¹ He lived in 2003 at 535 Island Road, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada^G.¹
