Duncan Campbell1 
He was a midshipman on merchant sailing ships to Jamaica before 1749.1 He was a merchant ship captain between 1749 and 1757.1 He was a hulks overseer.1 He was manager of the partnership Stewart and Campbell, which held a contract for the transport of 500 convicts a year to North America in 1772.1 He owned the ship Bounty (previously Bethia) which became William Bligh’s ship for his trip to Tahiti.1 Between 1787 and 1791 He and his firm arranged the transport of the first three fleets of convicts to establish Sydney.1
