Field Marshal Henry Maitland Wilson, 1st Baron Wilson was born on 5 September 1881 at London, England.3 He was the son of Arthur Maitland Wilson and Harriet Maude Isabella Kingscote.1 He married Hester Mary Wykeham, daughter of Philip James Digby Wykeham and Georgiana Caroline Henley, on 15 December 1914.3 He died on 31 December 1964 at age 83.3
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He was commissioned in 1900 with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant, in the service of the Rifle Brigade.1 He fought in the Boer War between 1900 and 1902.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in dispatches three times.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1917.1 He was commander of the 1st Battalion, Rifle Brigade between 1927 and 1930.3 He was commander of the 6th Infantry Brigade between 1934 and 1935.3 He gained the rank of Major-General in 1935.1 He held the office of Constable of the Tower of London between 1935 and 1960.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1937.1 He was commander of the 2nd Division between 1937 and 1939.3 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-General in 1939.1 He was Colonel of the 2nd Battalion, Rifle Brigade between 1939 and 1951.3 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) in 1940.1 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of the British Empire (G.B.E.) in 1941.1 He was Commander-in-Chief of the Middle East in 1943.1 He was Supreme Allied Commander of the Mediterranean.1 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.) in 1944.1 He was created 1st Baron Wilson, of Libya, and of Stowlangtoft, co. Suffolk [U.K.] on 12 March 1946.3
